Since its founding in 2010, the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) has worked to build the evidence base for clean cooking by commissioning and conducting a wide range of research
While the negative impacts of traditional cooking practices have long been well-established, CCA has sought to provide strong data showing the benefits of clean cooking on health, environmental, climate, gender, and economics. CCA continues to support rigorous research studies to demonstrate that the adoption of clean cooking solutions and the disuse of traditional cookstoves and fuels will lead to the achievement of the clean cooking sector’s goal of universal access to clean cooking by 2030.
In 2021, CCA convened 4C, a group of partners supporting countries’ efforts in using cooking energy interventions to achieve climate goals as part of their Nationally Determined Contributions targets or through the international carbon market.
Recognizing the critical importance of measurement and learning to the effectiveness and impact of both CCA and the clean cooking sector, CCA follows a clearly defined Monitoring & Evaluation Framework. The Framework includes key elements such as CCA's Theory of Change.
CCA has commissioned numerous market research studies that provide detailed data and analysis on potential markets for clean cookstoves and fuels. These studies serve as an open resource for partners in planning and enhancing their activities, and for CCA in its own efforts to support market development in the clean cooking sector.
Clean, efficient, affordable, and reliable technologies and fuels are fundamental to building a global market for clean cooking solutions and achieving desired impacts. By using standards and testing to set ambitious and achievable goals, CCA can work to strengthen national policies and drive stove and fuel innovation.
CCA maintains a comprehensive list of protocols for a range of stove and fuel types, along with archives of earlier versions (available upon request).
