H.E. Samira Bawumia
Second Lady of Ghana
H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia is the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana. She is an accomplished woman and a passionate advocate for women’s rights, women’s health, the empowerment of the under-privileged, Child Education and Gender Parity. She is also the founder and CEO of Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), which is pursuing initiatives that focus on issues of health, women empowerment and literacy. She has restocked some Basic Schools in Ghana with books as part of her campaign for making Ghana a literary powerhouse by inspiring a reading culture in Ghanaian children. She has also equipped selected rural Hospitals and Clinics with a range of essential medical supplies and equipment to help curb the rising rates of avoidable deaths in Ghana.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where she graduated top of her class.
She has represented Ghana and the African continent at various conferences and summits on tackling human trafficking, family planning and women’s rights.
She is an avid reader and a creative arts enthusiast. She is an advocate for reading in Ghana and a role model to many young Ghanaian women. She looks forward to contributing significantly to the success story of Ghana by leveraging her position of influence to bring relief to as many Ghanaians as possible.
Samira is married to H.E. Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, with whom she has four children.
