Supporting locally run, woman-led businesses is a key element of CCA’s the Alliance’s Gender Strategy to increase the role of women in the sector and to address gender issues to scale adoption.
Reliance on wood, charcoal, coal, and kerosene for cooking and heating forces women and children to spend hours each week collecting fuel—time that could be better spent on income generation, education, or other activities.
Replacing polluting, open fires and inefficient fuels with cleaner, more modern technologies saves households time and money. In addition, the clean cookstove and fuel value chain offers new pathways for local economic empowerment. Local entrepreneurs can earn income from product design, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and sales of clean stoves and fuels.
